Be patient with testing, SCHS pleads

HEALTH services have urged people to be patient and expect delays as they roll out drive-through testing in Mildura.

Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS) set up a testing clinic at Mildura Recreation Reserve on Sunday, which will be open during the week.

An SCHS spokesperson asked people to “be patient — there will be a wait”.

The spokesperson asked that only people who have coronavirus symptoms, people who have visited a confirmed coronavirus hotspot, close contacts contacted by the Department of Health and Human Services or anyone who genuinely believes they have been in contact with a confirmed case should come forward for testing on Sunday.

“If you don’t fall into those priority categories, please wait to get tested (during the week)”, the spokesperson said.

Opening hours for the testing clinic on Sunday were 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Opening hours during the week will be 9am to 4pm.

On Sunday afternoon the line of cars waiting for coronavirus testing stretched from the Mildura Recreation Reserve on Twelfth Street to San Mateo Avenue, filling two lanes, before continuing nearly to Mildura Waves – a distance of around one kilometre.

“We encourage people to stay calm,” the spokesperson said.

“What we don’t want is people in those (priority) categories missing out (on a test).”
