Sunraysia residents willing to roll up their sleeves

AFTER the Federal Government opened the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to more Australians this week, some Sunraysia locals are planning to roll their sleeves up for the jab.

On Monday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Australia’s COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine rollout would expand to include people under 40.

The change means anyone in Australia aged between 18 and 39 who is not eligible for a Pfizer vaccine can now opt to get the AstraZeneca vaccine from their GP if they have made an informed decision on whether the benefits of getting the vaccine outweigh the risk.

Since the announcement, more than 6000 previously ineligible under-40s have rolled up their sleeves for the AstraZeneca vaccine across Australia.

More than a quarter of readers responding to a Sunraysia Daily poll said they would now consider getting the AstraZeneca jab if they weren’t already eligible.

But while 28.9 per cent of poll respondents were keen to get vaccinated, another 4.3 per cent were undecided and a whopping 66.7 per cent said they were not considering getting the vaccine, with some Facebook commenters saying they were happy to hold off until they needed to be vaccinated for other reasons.

Tim Vanden Byllaardt said “I’m not interested unless it’s compulsory for work and travel”, Tyson Hanford said he would consider a Pfizer vaccine but “I don’t travel far so I don’t feel the need”, while others raised concerns over how the vaccination rollout had been managed.
