ON Monday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Australia’s COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine rollout would expand to include people under 40 and encouraged young people to roll up their sleeves for the jab.
Anyone in Australia aged between 18 and 39 who is not eligible for a Pfizer vaccine can now opt to get the AstraZeneca vaccine from their GP if they have made an informed decision on whether the benefits of getting the vaccine outweigh the risk.
The Federal Government also introduced a no-fault professional indemnity scheme for GPs and vaccine providers to cover approved COVID-19 vaccines.
While the AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for people over 18 for months, it is only recommended for over-60s, due to a risk of very rare blood clots in younger people. The data indicates about two out of every 100,000 people to get the vaccine are likely to develop the condition.
Since Mr Morrison’s announcement, more than 2600 Australians under 40 have received the AstraZeneca vaccine.
That’s got us wondering … how many people in Sunraysia are considering rolling up their sleeves now they’re eligible?
