Broken Hill traveller tests positive for COVID-19

VISITORS to Broken Hill are being urged to come forward and get tested for COVID-19 after a traveller through the area last week tested positive.

The case is a man from western Sydney who was in regional NSW on a camping trip while unknowingly infected.

Anyone who visited the Gourmet Cribtin cafe in Broken Hill between 10.40am and 11.20am on Saturday should get tested immediately and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result, as they are considered a close contact.

Anyone who was at the Broken Hill Shell service station on Williams Street between 10.52am and 10.55am the same day should monitor for symptoms and, if they appear, immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, cough, sore or scratchy throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell, loss of taste, fatigue, blocked nose, muscle pain, joint pain, headache, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, unexplained chest pain and conjunctivitis.

Additional testing capacity is being organised in Broken Hill, but testing is already available at existing clinics.

Testing sites include:

  • Broken Hill Community Centre drive-through COVID-19 clinic: 8am to 4pm weekdays.
  • Broken Hill Health Centre: 10am to 8pm daily.
  • Broken Hill Airport Royal Flying Doctor Service drive-through clinic: 9am to 5pm weekdays (appointments are required, call 0447 815 383 or 8080 3780).
  • Wentworth Health Service drive-through clinic: 10am to 3pm Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Balranald drive-through clinic: 1pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Testing is also available at Far West Local Health District facilities and local health facilities in Menindee but anyone wishing to be tested should call in advance.
