SUNRAYSIA residents on the Victorian side of the Murray River could have opportunities to socialise expanded soon.
Premier Daniel Andrews flagged further easing of restrictions for regional Victoria on the weekend, with the 14-day average for new daily cases in regional Victoria sitting at just 0.4.
But case numbers remain stubborn in Melbourne, with a further 15 new cases reported on Monday, taking the 14-day average for metropolitan Melbourne to 9.9.
There have been 11 mystery cases over two weeks for metropolitan Melbourne, and none for regional Victoria over the fortnight.
Mr Andrews said further announcements were set to be made on the weekend, which could move regional Victoria to a step “three plus”.
“Provided we continue to see a trend where there are not a huge number of additional mystery cases while we continue the see this trend flow through the rest of this week, then there will be some further easing that we can announce on Sunday,” Mr Andrews said.
“That it will be broadly on the social space rather than economic easing but we may be able to do more on that front in regional Victoria.”
Mr Andrews conceded targets laid out in the road map could need to be reviewed.
Under current restrictions for regional Victoria, which is in the ‘third step’ of the state government’s road map, gatherings of up to 10 are allowed outdoors and social bubbles with a nominate household are permitted.
Mr Andrews said Melbourne, currently under the second step, could move to a step “three minus” set of rules while regional Victoria could shift to “three plus”.
For Melbourne and regional Victoria, moving to ‘last step’ under the road map is based on reaching no new cases for two weeks statewide.
