Victoria adds 394 coronavirus cases, Mildura status unchanged

VICTORIA on Sunday reported 17 new deaths due to the coronavirus and 394 new cases.

While the addition of new cases was the smallest in 11 days, the death toll was the greatest in a single day since the pandemic began and brought the total number of deaths to 210.

There remained six total cases and one active case linked to people with addresses in the Mildura local government area.

A woman with an Irymple address was said to be isolating in Melbourne after testing positive to COVID-19 after several days in a Melbourne hospital.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews urged people to get tested at the first sign of symptoms and to stay isolated after testing.

Mr Andrews said following the state’s rules, with stage 3 restrictions in place for regional Victoria, was “essential” to driving numbers down.

“These rules are there for all of us and no Victorian has the right to be able to say ‘I think I can do something no one else is allowed to do’,” he said.

“You’ve got to follow these rules, they are incredibly important.”

The State Government on Sunday announced a $60 million package for the mental health system, which would include expanding the successful HOPE post-suicide prevention program to Mildura.

Anyone requiring crisis support can call Lifeline’s 24-hour number, 131 114, beyondblue, 1300 224 636, or headspace 1800 650 890.
