Victoria adds 459 coronavirus cases, 10 deaths

VICTORIA recorded its deadliest day of the coronavirus pandemic, with 10 deaths due to COVID-19 confirmed in the state’s Sunday update.

A further 459 active cases were also announced.

There remained no active cases attributed to the Mildura local government area.

One of the deaths was a man in his 40s as the state’s death toll from the COVID-19 illness rose to 71.

Stage 3 “stay at home” restrictions remained in place for metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire.

Information on restrictions for the rest of Victoria is available on the Department of Health and Human Services website.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said people with symptoms needed to get tested and not go to work or go shopping.

Common symptoms are fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell and taste.

“If you’ve got symptoms, you’ve got to get tested and you’ve got to get tested quickly,” Mr Andrews said.

“There’s more than 160 sites across the state.

“We’re doing thousands and thousands of testes every single day, we get the results back as fast as we possibly can … there is that income support if you didn’t have sick leave to fall back on.

“Then while you’re waiting on your test, you have to stay at home.”
