NSW sets up new Sunraysia coronavirus test sites

COVID-19 testing sites will increase on the New South Wales side of the border from Saturday.

NSW Government Far West Local Health District (LHD), with support of key stakeholders, will set up more dedicated testing clinics in response to the evolving coronavirus situation in Victoria.

Testing sites will open soon in Wentworth, Dareton, Buronga, Euston and Balranald.

Far West LHD chief executive Umit Agis said the clinics would operate as primary testing sites for the towns.

“These are expanded and additional clinics — and in some cases new clinics — for those townships,” Mr Agis said.

“In some towns, for example, where we only had a pop-up clinic, we now have a seven-day-a-week permanent clinic.”

Mr Agis said the additional clinics would run indefinitely in response to calls for more testing by NSW Health.

“We may need to adjust hours of operation depending on when we get more intelligence about movement of people in the community,” he said.

“I don’t see us ceasing it anytime soon.”

Mr Agis urged everyone, including Victorian visitors, to get tested, even if they were asymptomatic.

He said everyone should follow directions about home isolation and quarantine once they had been tested and could register to receive their results by SMS.
