Mildura coronavirus case in Friday update withdrawn

THE Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is no longer attributing an active COVID-19 case from its Friday update to Mildura.

It was the third time the department’s daily release of figures attributed a case to the Mildura local government area that was later removed.

DHHS figures released on Friday morning showed the case total for Mildura had increased from five to six, with one case listed as active.

Saturday and Sunday updates each reflected the previous tally of five cases, all no longer active.

DHHS told Sunraysia Daily on Friday that it was waiting on information from its investigative team about the new Mildura case.

“Data is continually analysed and clarified, so published numbers are always subject to change,” a DHHS spokesperson said.

“These changes in numbers can be for many reasons, including duplications and wrong postcodes recorded.

“It is worth noting that the data also reflects the residential address the person nominates, however it is not necessarily where they were infected or where the case currently resides.”

Across Victoria, four new cases were added in Sunday’s update, with 70 cases said to be still active.

“Our low rate of community transmission means we have been able to ease some restrictions in time for the long weekend, but it’s still important to stay safe,” Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said.

“Although it’s tempting to rush out or have your friends over or head out to a cafe, it is important that we all still use common sense.

“That means continuing to maintain physical distance from others, practice good hygiene – wash your hands regularly and cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, avoid crowds, be cautious and if you’re unwell stay home and get tested.”
