SUNRAYSIA residents with mild symptoms of COVID-19 will be able to get tested at a new drive-through pop-up clinic in the carpark near the Mildura Central Target store.
The clinic will operate Thursday, May 7 to Saturday, May 9 from 1pm to 4pm.
Sunraysia Community Health Services programs clinic manager Shelley Faulks said SCHS would also operate a morning clinic at the organisation’s respiratory assessment site on Thirteenth Street for people working or volunteering in health and aged care, emergency services, construction and retail businesses.
Ms Faulks said SCHS was asking people who worked in these areas to get tested even if they had no symptoms of the virus.
This clinic will operate from 9am to 11am on Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8.
Ms Faulks said both clinics were part of the Victorian Government’s testing blitz, which aims to test 100,000 Victorians by May 11.
The results of the testing blitz will be used by the government to consider the gradual lifting of Stage 3 restrictions.
Ms Faulks said it was important for people in the general public to come forward even if they were experiencing only mild respiratory symptoms.
The Mildura Central drive-through clinic will be available to Sunraysia residents on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“We really want to contribute to the state’s testing information so that we get good information about what’s happening in our local community,” Ms Faulks said.
Those who do have mild symptoms and get tested will also not have to wait long to receive their results.
“The people with mild symptoms will be asked to stay home and self-isolate until their results come back but (the results are) back within 24 to 48 hours,” Ms Faulks said.
“But people with symptoms should be self-isolating until they feel better anyway, regardless of what sort of virus is causing it.”
Although there have not been reported cases of COVID-19 in Sunraysia since April 8, Ms Faulks said it was still important to remember Stage 3 restrictions had not ended.
“Although it is difficult, we do need to try and continue to stay home as much as possible and only go out as required for essential services, work or a little bit of exercise,” she said.
People do not have to book with SCHS to attend these clinics.
The drive-through clinic will be at the Target loading dock.
