SOUTH Australia Police have provided some more clarity into the state’s new border restrictions and exemptions.
On Sunday, the South Australian Government announced it would introduce new restrictions for people travelling into the state to help flatten the curve of coronavirus.
As of 4pm Tuesday checking points to South Australia were policed.
People entering South Australia who do not follow the new border restrictions face a $20,000 fine, while companies who breach it face a $75,000 fine.
Travellers are now required to identify a suitable residence and start self-quarantine for 14 days starting from when they arrive in South Australia.
Police will be stopping travellers at checking points and recording their names and details of where they will be staying during self quarantine.
However, some people may be regarded as ‘essential travellers’ if they fit a certain criteria.
Those who believe they are an essential traveller will be asked to justify their status to police.
The police officer will then make a final decision and if appropriate will allow the traveller to continue into the state uninterrupted.
For those who are attempting to access essential medical treatment and are accompanied by a carer, their carer will have to self isolate for 14 days.
But the patient will not need to self isolate.
If police deem a person to not be an essential traveller they will either have to turn around and not enter South Australia or they will have to self quarantine for 14 days and let police know the address of where they plan to do this.

– Health services
– Essential medical treatment
– Transport and freight services
– Skills critical to maintaining key industries of businesses
– Emergency services workers
– Cross border community members
– Passing through (travellers will need to make their own enquires about entry into their final state destination)
– Compassionate grounds
