Local COVID case rate falls, but still high

MILDURA'S rate of COVID-19 infections has fallen by a quarter in the past week but the number of cases per population remain high compared to the rest of regional Victoria.

A further 77 cases recorded on Tuesday put Mildura's total active cases at 613, which is a 25 per cent decline on last Tuesday's number (819).

But while infections have reduced in the past week, cases against population (the rate per 100,000 people) places Mildura fourth across regional Victoria.

Mildura Base Public Hospital plans to continue requiring visitors aged 12 months and over to do a rapid test on-site before visiting patients.

Third dose vaccination rates in Mildura (67.8 per cent) remain anchored in the bottom 10 for the state, and second worst for regional Victoria behind Swan Hill (66.5).

The number of identified influenza cases in Victoria (33,055) sit just below rates recorded in 2019 (34,684), as at July 17.

Influenza can incubate for one to four days and may last for up to a week.

For both COVID-19 and influenza, the Victorian Department of Health advises good hygiene, face masks and voluntary home isolation.
