Mildura ‘on track’ for lockdown to end on Friday

THERE is no reason at this stage to believe Mildura’s current lockdown will extend beyond the scheduled week, COVID response commander Jeroen Weimar said on Monday.

Visiting the city as it struggles with its worst outbreak of the pandemic, Mr Weimar said he was “bowled over by the amazing response I’ve seen on the ground today” and that if testing and vaccination rates remain high, lockdown restrictions should ease on time.

“I think we’ve got a pretty good track record as a community of working together quickly, identifying these cases… if we follow that script over the coming days, and the start has been very promising, then I’m confident we can look forward to a good result at the weekend,” he said.

He cautioned, however, that case numbers were likely to grow over the next few days.

More to come on Tuesday.
