TWO officers were welcomed to their new posting with the Sunraysia division of the Salvation Army on Sunday.
Captain Kimberley Featherston and Lieutenant Shaun Featherston were affirmed as the new church ministers in a Sunday service, with attendees welcoming the couple and their two-year-old daughter Hannah.
The service included a presentation of gifts including local produce and products by members of the church, to familiarise the new officers with the community.
The pair, who had previously been posted in Sunbury, said the experience of moving into a more regional area had been an interesting one.
"It's different, but it's a very welcome challenge," Cpt Featherston said.
"It's not just about us bringing ourselves into the space, but coming to the people in the community, being who they need and bringing to them what they need."
Lt Featherston said many people had already introduced themselves before the Sunday service.
"Some have mentioned how they are looking forward to getting to know us, and walking on this journey with us, it's been really good," he said.
Cpt Featherston said the reception from locals in the community has already been quite warm.
"Just yesterday morning we were walking around the farmers market and already there were people asking 'oh, are you in a mother's group yet?', 'are you in a playgroup?', 'this is where we are, come and find us'," she said.
"It's all very nice, I feel quite welcomed already."
