A SPECIAL farewell church service was held at the Salvation Army on Sunday.
The ceremony was for Major Rod Serojales and wife Major Debbie Serojales, along with their children Shaella and Amaya, who have been appointed to new roles within the organisation in Melbourne.
Guest speakers touched on the impact had by the Serojales over the past four years, including Glenn Milne, who spoke on behalf of the Salvation Army thrift shops in Sunraysia.
"The support that we have had from Rod and Debbie since the moment they arrived has been fantastic," he said.
"They have always offered an ear for the volunteers if any needed to talk, and Debbie would send us messages all the time.
"I believe our community is all the better because they have been here."
Ms Serojales will be working at the Salvation Army Church in Coburg, likely with a focus on family and children's ministries, while Mr Serojales will be the manager of the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Services chapter.
"We've really loved our ministry here in Sunraysia, it's been an honour to work with the team here at the church and others involved in various ways," Ms Serojales said.
"Rod really has a passion for people who are new to their country who have left their family behind because he's done himself.
"It will be great for him to have the chance to offer the support and help they need to transition to life in Australia.
"Hopefully, we've done what we can with our faith, and our mission of purpose of the Salvation Army, that there's always going to be a welcoming place here for anyone who needs the support."
A welcome for incoming Corps Officers Captain Kimberly and Lieutenant Shaun Featherston will be held on January 19.
