Salvos’ day of family fun

THE first family fun day held by Sunraysia Salvation Army has attracted more than 400 people.

Run last weekend, there was something for everyone including face painting, pony rides, EnviroEDU for kids, as well as a mini expo on Salvos services, and a garage sale.

Major Debbie Serojales said despite some early trepidation the response from the community was massive.

"There was a moment where we were wondering if anyone would come," she said.

"We were really pleased, everyone seemed to enjoy taking part.

"There was such a wide variety of activities, but people were also able to learn about how much the Salvation Army does within the community.

"Having that information out there through the mini expo, and letting people know about the different volunteering opportunities was really good."

There was no cost involved to attendees, which Major Serojales said had been a key factor in planning the event.

"A lot of people were appreciative but surprised when they found out the event was free," she said.

"To have somewhere as a family to go without that pressure of cost is important, and it was a privilege to be able to offer that to the community."

With such a positive turnout and response to the event, Major Serojales didn't rule out the chance of another family day in future.

"I think it's really good to get people from such vast and diverse areas of the community to mix together and have fun," she said.

"We've never done something like this before, but we'd love to do it again."
