Patience paves way for shot a nationals

MILDURA fighter Egemen Keleser is set to compete at the Australian Elite Boxing Championships in Canberra this month after coming off his recent South Australia Title win.

Iron Fist’s Egemen Keleser said he didn’t get too excited after his state championship win, but was more happier with his patience in the ring.

“It felt like a normal day, but it felt good doing what I believed I could, which was be disciplined,” he said.

“Going into it, I felt pretty confident since I had fought the person before, and I lost narrowly.

“I was quite confident knew what to expect and just how to react.

“The game plan was to use my reach using my strength, target the body, and just wear him out and evade his power.”

Last month was the second time Keleser had been crowned the South Australian boxing champion, his previous being in 2022.

Keleser has been training in both Mildura and Adelaide to prepare for the nationals this month.

“I go to Adelaide a few times a month to train with the state team and do the usual training at home,” he said.

“I have a lot of one-on-one sessions with my coach, Buster, and I do the class and some of the morning fitness classes.

“I’ve also been looking at a lot of video footage because the states have all announced who’s going, so I’m just watching footage on those guys to give me an idea of what to expect.”

Keleser said his determination is his x-factor, which will make him a tough match-up at the national titles.

“My will makes me a hard fighter to go up against,” he said.

“I don’t really get discouraged by hard punches, I don’t really slow down I just know I want to win.

“I’ve never been knocked or rocked, so knowing that I’ve got a good chin means I can just push forward.”

The Australian Elite Boxing Championships take place from November 20 to 23.
