Tonner’s top year

MILDURA Brazilian jiu jitsu athlete Kris Tonner has been on fire throughout 2023, and has added Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year to his impressive list.

Two national gold medals, plus multiple first places across four state championships prove the grappler has been sensational when it comes to competition.

Tonner claimed gold in both the Master 3 Open Weight Gi and No Gi at the AJJC – Australian National Championship to put the stamp an an outstanding year.

That followed four gold medals at the NSW state titles in April, another four in the Victorian titles in May, a double gold in June’s Queensland state titles, and another victory in August at the ACT titles.

As the September winner of the 2023 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year, Tonner won a voucher sponsored by Intersport and is now eligible for the overall award to be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Club Da Vinci, Mildura.

Mallee Sports Assembly is calling for October nominations for the Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year Awards.

Nomination forms are available from 101-101a Ninth Street, Mildura or via www.malleesportsassembly.org.au. For further information phone 5021 3464.
