MILDURA’S first and most successful female boxer has continued her winning streak, claiming victory in out last weekend’s Queen of the Ring tournament.
Lainesia Toutai became the first Mildura boxer in decades to achieve a 10-fight streak when she won the title in Western Australia.
Toutai who won at the King of the Ring Tournament earlier in the year also became the first Mildura boxer to find wins at both tournaments.
Coach Jackson Ladd said he was pleased with Toutai’s performance.
“She went really well, she fought a girl she had beaten twice already and dominated her,” he said.
“The first round was pretty even so I told Nish she was down to give her a bit of fire.
“The second round she put an eight count on her and there were areas where she could’ve stopped the girl, but I think she was a bit too patient, but in round two she pulled away.
“In round three she dominated, and I don’t think the girl landed a punch. In the end she won by unanimous decision and all of the judges scored it for her.”
Ladd said it had been a tough training camp, but the hard work had paid off.
“She was 65kg at the end of last week so we thought she might struggle to make weight but when we got on the scales there, she was 59.5kg,” he said.
“She worked hard, timed everything properly and it worked out well in the end.”
This was Toutai’s last fight for 2023. She will round out the year with a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in December.
