MILDURA’s Lainesia Toutai will be looking to add more “jewellery” to her collection when she fights at this weekend’s Queen of the Ring Tournament in Perth.
The proud holder of a 10-0 undefeated record, Ladd’s Boxing Club’s Toutai will be among a pool of the country’s best female fighters all vieing to take home one of the tournament’s signature rings.
She already holds a “King of the Ring” after taking out the tournament earlier this year.
Toutai’s dominance led to her not having anyone to face at the recent South Australian State titles but her opponent will have nowhere to hide at this upcoming competition.
“The girl she is fighting, she’s fought twice and beaten her both times, so I think she will do well,” coach Jackson Ladd said.
“She is probably her hardest fight. The first time she gave Nish a hard fight and the second time Nish figured her out.
“The girl is a South Paw and the first time they fought Lainesia wasn’t used to fighting other South Paws. She is also tough, and Nish hasn’t been able to stop her before, but I think time she’s got it this time.”
Ladd said Toutai was running out of fights in South Australia and they were having to find matches in other states.
“We are having to travel interstate to find her matches and boxing SA are putting up money to get people to come to SA and fight her,” he said.
“She will be international this year, she should’ve been international now but she couldn’t go to America because her passport was stuffed around.
“She was meant to be in America the same week as Queen of the Ring.”
Ladd said they had been training hard to prepare for the tournament, and Toutai was fit and ready to go.
“We’ve pushed her pretty hard, I would’ve liked another week to prepare but it just comes down to getting the weight off now,” he said.
“We are just about there we just need to get another 3kg off.”
Ladd and Toutai will depart for Perth this Thursday.
