Ladds impress in SA v WA comp

LADD’S Boxing Club fighters played a crucial role in taking home the win at Saturday’s Western Australia versus South Australia boxing tournament.

With only 10 boxers picked to represent the state, Ladd’s made up almost half of the team with four boxers competing.

Ladd’s were pivotal in the seven to three win over WA with fighters Hamish Berry, Charlie Cooper and Lainesia Toutai all winning their fights while Gab Toutai was edged out by one of the country’s best 69kg fighters.

Despite a long day prior to the event which included a 3am flight from Adelaide, the crew showed up fit and ready demonstrating their dynamic boxing skills.

Coach Jackson Ladd said he was “really pleased” with how the team fought.

“This is the first tournament SA have won this year so it was awesome, especially to have three of our fighters win,” he said.

“All of the fights were really strong.”

Ladd said they would now look to hone the skills of the fighters before state titles.

“As far as tournaments and the pressure on training goes we have had a bit of a break over the last six weeks so what we saw was really good,” he said.

“There’s a lot of improvements that needs to be had but there was also a lot of improvement that were displayed, so I am pretty happy with every fighter overall.

“The team effort and sportsmanship for this event was also great to see.”

The team will fight again in three weeks, keeping them active before the state titles in late October.
