Boxers to battle for Hogarth Cup

LADD’S Boxing Club has announced the return of live boxing to Mildura for the annual Hogarth Cup.

Held at the Mildura Basketball Stadium, the July 22 event will feature 20 fights with competitors from Mildura taking on the best from South Australia and Victoria.

Named after the famous boxing family, the Hogarth Cup will pit the best city boxers against the best country boxers with the winner being awarded the Harrison Ladd Memorial Trophy.

Boxing Coach and owner of Ladd’s Boxing Club Steve Ladd said last year’s event was a major success that atrracted around 800 spectators.

“Last year was such a success with the amount of people who turned up locally and said they enjoyed themselves but it was also great to hear other clubs from the city mention they wanted to come back,” he said.

“We had so many people come up and say we didn’t know it was going to be that good. If we go off last year, the event will sell out again.”

Ladd said there would be eight boxers from his gym looking to compete this year in front of a home crowd.

“It is an event for us to let our local boxers fight in their own town in front of their own crowd without travelling it also gives our local community the chance to go a boxing event,” he said.

“It brings people into our region which is good for bringing money into the town like we have just had over the Easter weekend.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring the event or booking a table should contact Ladd’s Boxing Club.
