Cheers to Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show

THE Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary in early November with a showcase of non-traditional wines from Australia and New Zealand.

This year’s theme is ‘Rewriting the Rules’, and calls for growers, makers and wine lovers to think outside the box as they champion the places and people who have changed the industry.

Entries are now open, and AAVWS organiser and Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Cr Helen Healy said the show’s 25 year history has featured shifts in the industry.

“Each year we receive around 800 entries, a testament to just how far alternative varieties have come in Australia,” she said.

“What began as a bold idea 25 years ago has grown into one of the most respected and exciting wine shows in the country.”

The show will include an Awards Long Lunch, Talk & Taste, Show Tasting, and a three-course Featured Dinner curated by co-founder, Stefano de Pieri.

Rohan Morris, marketing and development manager, said he feels excited to feature industry innovators.

“This show is about pushing boundaries while staying grounded in community,” he said.

“The 2025 program is packed with innovation, flavour, and great conversation. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Mildura.”

The 2025 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show event will begin Thursday, November 6, and run through to Saturday, November 8.
