Historic club gets work done

THE historic Mildura Working Man’s Club has begun the first of many renovations aimed at improving the venue, with the hope it’ll enhance customer experience.

Work has started at the back of the building, with stage one focusing on the installation of a new ramp at the Madden Avenue entrance, fresh paint, and updated signage.

Club CEO Steve Banks said the first stage will improve accessibility, with a ramp providing step-free access for members and guests.

“Previously, you had to go through the club and use stairs, but this upgrade will mean everyone can enter easily,” he said.

“Well, be giving (the back of the club) a paint with some improved signage.

“It’s really just a tidy-up of an old building that we’re giving a little bit of overdue love to.”

Plans also include transforming part of the space into a modern function area, which Mr Banks said would be perfect for events such as birthdays, wakes, and other private functions.

“Were going to make this room so we can actually close it off and make it a private function area as well,” he said

“The space will take advantage of Mildura’s incredible weather, with modern furnishing in both the indoor and outdoor areas.

The upgrades follow the successful purchase of the main building in July after it had been leased for nearly 20 years.

Mr Banks said the renovations aim to enhance the experience for both members and visitors and increase revenue, which will then be reinvested locally.

“Our objective, and the board’s objective, is to make as much money as we possibly can so we can give it back, to the Sunraysia Community,” he said.

“As a community club, a percentage of every dollar you spend goes directly back into our local community.”
