Builders bring home gold

A MILDURA-based building company received the top honour in their category last Friday at the Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Housing Awards in Melbourne.

The Bruce Lee Builder team was awarded Regional Residential Builder of the Year for their work on a three-storey cottage extension.

Director Casey Lee said he was very proud of what his team achieved on the project and to win an award for it was the cherry on top.

“This is the first time we have taken such a major award, so it was a very unexpected win, but we were there,” he said.

“We were very excited, and some of the guys were a bit emotional about the whole situation, which was great to see.

“Considering the calibre of competition we were up against, it was unexpected but very pleasant.”

Judges lauded the local builders for their execution in building the extension despite the challenges, which included tight access, high traffic flow, and overhead power lines.

“It was a very tight space as it was just on the fringes of the CBD, so logistically we had to use cranes and navigate the busy lane in the back and the power lines out the front.

“We had a neighbour who would control the boundary like it was the border between North and South Korea, so there were a few challenges you don’t typically come across on a job site.

“When we finished, everyone knew it was something very special, it was obviously the best project we’ve ever worked on.

“After Friday’s award we all got back to work on from the Monday, so it’s all been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.”
