Van brewing whole latte potential

A UNIQUE travelling coffee van has popped up in the carpark opposite Kmart Mildura.

Father George was founded by Argiro Karallis in honour of her late dad, who passed away in 2014.

“I was trying to work out what I should name the van and then I thought, you know what, I have to do something after my father,” she said.

“You hear from people who knew him, and it just brings a big smile to their faces, I’m happy that I’ve been able to continue that along.

“I want to keep what he’d taught us throughout the years going.”

George Karallis, along with his wife Vicki, operated many different enterprises in his lifetime including Tribute 94 which was opened in 2010.

The cafe was sold a few years ago, with Ms Karallis moving to Melbourne and finding a career in the dental industry before realising it wasn’t her thing.

“I’m more into hospitality, and customer service, and I feel like I can be myself inside the van,” she said.

“I love making coffees and talking with people, it makes me really happy.

“And the fresh air is great, I don’t have that commitment of an actual building, I’m not stuck indoors, I can breathe.”

Ms Karallis said feedback from people in response to the van has been incredible.

“The community here in Mildura has been just incredible,” she said.

“If it wasn’t for the people who have supported me along the way this wouldn’t have picked up, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Father George will be in Mildura until Sunday afternoon.
