Purr-fect time to purchase pet hotel

PAWS resort owners Breigh and Zane Hammet have put their home and business up sale, as demand continues to soar.

The pair have run the boarding kennel and cattery business at Birdwoodton for more than six years, servicing Mildura, Broken Hill, Robinvale and Ouyen.

In that time, they have expanded the business’s footprint, taking bookings from an average of 20 dogs and five cats per week, to up to 60 dogs and 20 cats at any one time.

While juggling the pet resort business with her husband, Breigh also works fulltime as a senior sergeant with the local police, and they have two children aged four and 12.

The couple love the people and the pets of Paws Resort, but they’ve made the tough decision to step aside, hoping someone with more time will take over the business, and help it reach its full potential.

“We are booked out far in advance,” Ms Hammet said.

“We’ve got a waiting list running for Easter at the moment, we’re booked out for Christmas 2024 already.

“They’re all positives, they’re all great things, but we just look and go ‘is there someone who wants to expand that so that the waiting lists don’t exist’”

It is the third time the home and business has been up for sale since 2008.

One Agency sales agent Sarah Lehmann said it once again has generated a lot of interest.

“We’ve actually had quite a lot of interest from people within Sunraysia, a lot of locals and also quite a lot of interest from outside of Sunraysia,” Ms Lehmann said

“In real estate, you don’t really get the opportunity to own freehold and work and run a business from home.

“It’s a unique opportunity for somebody to come in and take on the current thriving business and make it their own.”

Ms Hammet said she’ll miss running the resort, but the community stands to benefit if the right people take on the business.

“Myself and Zane will probably kick ourselves in 12 months, because it was a big decision; this place is really important to us,” Ms Hammet said.

“We’re proud of it and we have a real passion for it, so we would like to find someone that feels the same.

“It’s our turn to step away and let the next people come through and expand that further with fresh ideas and eyes.

“It will be hard to walk away, but it needs that expansion.”
