Merrett to lead Light art vision

MILDURA Regional Development has appointed experienced executive Leesa Merrett to the team to head up the region’s multimillion-dollar Light Installation Project.

Ms Merrett, who has accepted the role of general manager of operations, worked in senior roles in the public water and environment sectors for over 20 years, delivering major infrastructure projects and regional development for the region.

She is looking forward to working closely with the Bruce Munro Light Installation Project team to play an “instrumental role in delivering the largest economic opportunity and tourism attraction that this region has experienced”.

The two immersive light installations, at Lake Cullulleraine and Wentworth, will reflect the unique environment and culture of the region and it’s predicted they will draw visitors from across the world.

MRD said that over her career, Ms Merrett had established strong connections across many sectors in the region and is an advocate for community, working closely with a diverse range of stakeholders including cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, neurodiverse people, First Nations peoples, youth and industry sectors.

It said she had a proven track record for delivering great outcomes as part of major capital projects in her previous roles with Lower Murray Water and Mallee Catchment Management Authority.

Ms Merrett is a member of the SuniTAFE Board and Governance Committee and a member of the Steering Committee of Cultivator Inc, a local not-for-profit organisation that focusses on engaging and collaborating with the community, particularly youth through various forms including large-scale art installations, events, and workshops.

She holds tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, project management and business, and is an IAP2 accredited – Advanced Engagement Practitioner.

Mildura Regional Development CEO Peter Alexander said: “Leesa’s experience and professional skills will provide an essential resource to our team and enable us to be agile and take advantage of the many opportunities that present themselves as part of the Light Installation project.”
