New venture shows mall confidence

MILDURA’S Sharon and Andrew Prothero have made the switch from selling juices to selling housewares as they open their new business in the Langtree Mall.

Elegant Linen, located at 78A Langtree Ave, opened its doors last Wednesday.

Ms Prothero said it was a “fresh” new venture for the family, who had recently closed their business, the Juice Bar, after nine years.

“We just thought we would like to do bed linen and things like that,” she said.

“We owned the juice bar before this … this is completely different.”

Ms Prothero said the mall was a good place to launch the store, which sells beddings, pillows, homewares and more.

“We looked around for quite a while just to get a shop that was right for the fit,” she said.

“We found this one and thought we’d give it a go in the mall.”

Ms Prothero said she and her daughter, Chelsea, had done a lot of research before opening the store, travelling to Melbourne to find different suppliers and drawing inspiration from other businesses.

She said the business had been in the works for about three months.

Ms Prothero said it was great to offer more options for locals.

“There are only the bigger stores (in Mildura) that have their range,” she said.

“We have got five or six different brands from different supplies and we hope to get more as we go along.”

Ms Prothero said several people had stopped by on the store’s first day, checking out the new products and buying items.
