PETER Alexander has been appointed interim chief executive of Mildura Regional Development.
The former managing director of Polaris Australia and New Zealand will keep the seat warm as the tourism organisation searches for a new chief executive over the coming months.
Peter is replacing Brett Millington, who has been in the role since September 2019, and will become the SuniTAFE chief executive in three weeks.
After his first days on the job this week, Mr Alexander said he had absorbed as much knowledge as he could from Mr Millington while he was still in the role.
“I think he’s (Brett’s) going to be hard to replace, but he’s assured me he’s only a phone call away,” Mr Alexander said.
“I met the whole team, then a meeting on the Kittyhawk project down at the airport, and then down here to look at this (Walpeup GrainCorp silo art) installation.
“It’s an enormous honour to be asked by the board to even do this interim role.”
Mr Alexander moved to Sunraysia 14 months ago from one of Victoria’s coldest regions, near Bacchus Marsh, to the sunny skies of Mildura.
His wife, a casual relief teacher, and his son, who is in Year 7 at St Joseph’s College, love the region’s lifestyle.
“We’re a water-ski family and love spending our time surfing and knee boarding,” Mr Alexander said.
He is passionate about entertainment, food and wine culture, and is a singer who loves live music.
“I play at The Office quite a lot, and other local venues, at some stage I’ll be singing rock and roll or I’ll be talking about economic development, depending on which hat I’m wearing,” Mr Alexander said.
