Partnership to help develop future leaders

NORTHERN Mallee Leaders and Mildura Regional Development have announced a partnership aimed at recruiting and developing the region’s emerging community leaders.

MRD chief executive Brett Millington said the two organisations “create the perfect alignment of skills, passion, and enthusiasm to develop our region’s emerging leadership talent and connect them with community organisations, businesses, and diverse local industries”, while Northern Mallee Leaders committee of management chair Justin Nicholas said said the partnership “will strengthen the program, extend our reach, and build our community’s capacity in making the northern Mallee a great place to live”.

The NMLP is one of nine Victorian regional community leadership programs with the mission to develop leadership capability, foster connections, empower people, and inspire confidence and optimism. Each year up to 24 emerging leaders are accepted into the program with the aim of reflecting, and giving a voice to, the diverse communities living and working within our region.

The NMLP has been supported by MADEC since the program’s re-launch in 2013 with dedicated lobbying from 2008 and 2009 NMLP graduates. In 2016, Northern Mallee Leaders became an incorporated entity under an auspice arrangement with MADEC. It has delivered 11 programs over the last 14 years resulting in over 220 individuals graduating from the NMLP.

“MADEC has been a wonderful support to Northern Mallee Leaders and was instrumental in helping re-launch our flagship program back in 2013. That MADEC relationship has always been strong, and we now look forward to our next chapter with MRD which will allow us to better focus on connections with our local business community and industry,” Nicholas said.

Applications for the 2022 Northern Mallee Leaders Program are currently open with more information available at https://bit.ly/3jMuqFU
