A PLANELOAD of almost 200 workers destined for Victorian farms touched down in Tasmania on Tuesday night.
The plane is the second in a fleet that will bring a total of 1500 workers to Victoria under the Pacific Mobility Scheme.
The workers will complete 14 days’ quarantine in Tasmania’s Pacific worker quarantine system before travelling to work in Victoria.
The State Government will pay the majority of costs for worker quarantine, with employers contributing $2000 per worker.
“Bringing these workers into Victoria under the Pacific Mobility Schemes will ease some pressure for farmers – but it’s not a silver bullet,” Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas said in a statement.
“We need to keep working to encourage locals into these jobs – something that the Federal Government should play an active role in.”
