All go for Benetook General Store grand opening

THE SRS Benetook Farm team are putting the finishing touches to the new Benetook General Store for its grand opening on Sunday.

Store co-ordinator Tegan Pyke is excited about welcoming the public to the first pop-up market after its planned launch was delayed due to last weekend’s extreme heat.

Ms Pyke said the new market would bring “something a bit different to the area”, showcasing all sorts of locally made, collected and refurbished wares, with a focus on community and sustainability and a “bit of a vintage twist”.

“We’ve got people that have got amazing collections that they’re willing to sell and trade, people who upcycle local furniture and create, which is pretty amazing,” she said.

“And we’ve got other small businesses who may have closed their shopfronts during COVID lockdowns but are finding an avenue here to sell, which is really exciting.

“Hopefully we can offer an opportunity for people to launch their own small businesses.”

Some of the goods on offer include furniture, jewellery, candles, essential oils, fishing gear and car memorabilia, as well as second-hand bits and pieces.

“We’ve got people that have got amazing collections that they’re willing to sell and trade, people who upcycle local furniture and create, which is pretty amazing,” Ms Pyke said.

“It’s a really good community.”

SRS program participants have also been eagerly preparing for the grand opening.

“The participants have been helping with the restoration and painting and they’ve been helping me source stuff, and they helped with the bunting.”

The grand opening of the General Store is on at Benetook Farm from 9.30am-2.30pm on Sunday.
