Mildura penthouse apartments sell for $1.7 million

A PRIME piece of land in Mildura’s city centre that has been sitting idle for many years will have a multi-million-dollar makeover early next year when construction starts on the boutique City Garden Apartments.

The King Construction Group, led by local builder Dale King, has revealed it will start work on the four-level, mixed-use development at the 19-23 Deakin Avenue site, nestled between the Grand Hotel and 27 Deakin, in January.

It will have eight apartments, including two penthouses with riverfront views, sitting above a day spa on the ground floor. It is expected to take 16 months to complete the project on the old caryard site, which has been taken over by a group of four local businessmen.

Sunraysia Daily can exclusively reveal that four of the apartments have already been sold, including the two penthouses for about $1.7 million each. The other two have each sold for just over $1 million.

“The sales so far have been through word of mouth,” Tony Roccisano, director of The Professionals Mildura, the property’s exclusive selling agent, said yesterday.

“The apartments have been on the drawing board for about six months, but it took some time to get the planning permits through.

“This sort of building shows Mildura is coming of age into a major regional city.”

Mr Roccisano said the apartments would have the “same sophisticated quality as what you’d see in apartments in Toorak and Melbourne’s city centre”.

“The great thing about these apartments is they’ve been designed by one of the leading architects in Melbourne (Interlandi Mantesso Architects),” he said.

“The building will have an understated elegance, and the interior design (by Kelly Holland) is a high-level standard that Mildura hasn’t seen before.

“It’s bringing the best designs of the city to Mildura.”

Both penthouses have two bedrooms, two ensuites, an office/lounge area, bar, big kitchen and a powder room. They are each about 300m sq in size and have an accompanying terrace. One also has a winter garden.

The other six apartments each have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room, among other features. They range in size between 169m sq and 216m sq, and each has a terrace. Two of the apartments will also have a small courtyard.

The complex will have a shared courtyard and a BBQ area for private entertaining and gardening, as well as two parking spaces for each apartment owner.

Mr King is also building the nearby $10m mixed-use development on the corner of Deakin Ave and Ninth St for local car king Garry Davison.
