VIRGIN Australia is yet to confirm whether flights between Melbourne and Mildura are in its future plans, although the airline has pledged a “strong network” in regional Australia.
The Melbourne-Mildura route was grounded at the end of March, before the carrier entered voluntary administration.
Virgin previously ran one daily return flight between Melbourne and Mildura.
Now under new ownership, Virgin on Wednesday announced its post-administration plan, which included 3000 job cuts.
Virgin Australia Group chief executive and managing director Paul Scurrah said in a press conference 18 of its top 20 regional routes would be maintained.
A Virgin Australia Group spokesman did not say whether Mildura flights were among those being kept.
“We intend to have a strong network of destinations across regional Australia,” the spokesman said.
“However, right now our focus is on responding to COVID and building capacity back as demand returns.
“Any future changes to our network will be made in due course.”
Virgin announced its regional and charter fleet would be retained.
It is removing larger planes used on long-haul flights, while budget offshoot Tigerair Australia would not continue to fly.
