Long border delays over Chaffey Bridge

RESIDENTS’ commute to work was slowed to a halt on Monday morning with traffic backed up near the George Chaffey Bridge border stop.

There were major delays as lines stretched from the Seventh Street roundabout in both directions including past Madden Avenue and towards Etiwanda Avenue.

Police were stationed at the Eighth Street roundabout preventing traffic from travelling along San Mateo Avenue.

Some residents reported it took up to 50 minutes to get from Mildura across the border into New South Wales from about 7am.

Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said reports were that police are now taking a tougher approach at the border crossings and checking all permits and identification of those travelling into New South Wales.

She urged residents to refrain crossing the border if it is not necessary to help minimise congestion for those who need to head into New South Wales.
