Mildura vodka gets into the local spirit

FOSSEY’S Distillery will launch a new premium vodka — made using local grapes — on Saturday.

The Fossey’s team has been working on perfecting the new vodka for some time and believe it has great potential both locally and nationally.

Self-described “ginnovator” Steve Timmis said there was scope for national distribution and the business was in talks with Dan Murphy’s and BWS to stock it.

“We’re a bit hopeful that this might be a bit of a game-changer in positioning ourselves a little bit differently nationally,” he said.

Fossey’s Distillery has become known across Sunraysia for its selection of gins, whiskey and even hand sanitiser.

Mr Timmis said he wanted to make a high-end premium product.

“That’s a lot easier said than done, but we have done that,” he said.

“We also wanted to price it so it was extremely competitive in the general market place.”

The new premium vodka — classified as a grape spirit — will come in a 700ml bottle at $60.

“It starts off as a byproduct from the wineries,” Mr Timmis said.

“Believe it or not, a bunch of grapes is the start of our vodka.”

Everything to do with the new vodka has been crafted for optimal taste and impact.

Mr Timmis said he was thankful to graphic designer Kylie Norton for designing the new label.

“I’m really excited about the labelling — it looks really good, it’s really high-class,” he said.

“Every single piece of Fossey’s stuff is her doing from the marketing point of view.”

The distillery has also had a bit of extra time to focus on other projects.

“We’ve also taken the time to lay down some gin in some barrels,” Mr Timmis said.

“That’s actually a product we’ll have next year but we’ve laid them down this year.”

The new premium vodka will be available online at www.fosseysgin.com.au from Saturday.
