OTR Mildura store targets November opening

OTR is aiming to open its new Mildura store, featuring a Mexican food outlet, in November.

The South Australian fuel and convenience store chain had been about to start building its second Sunraysia store, at the corner of Deakin Avenue and Fifteenth Street, before the coronavirus crisis.

OTR head of community, partnerships and PR Joann Skene said while COVID-19 had slowed progress, the new store was scheduled to open during the first week of November.

“As we are using a local Mildura builder, Malidot, the effect of COVID-19 has been reduced, however it still has slowed progress due to consultants and council members working from home, together with some suppliers experiencing delays with imported products,” Ms Skene said.

In January, OTR said the new store would create 50 jobs during construction and 40 retail roles.

It was yet to be finalised at that time which restaurant chain would form part of the development, despite previous plans featuring Mexican chain Guzman Y Gomez.

Ms Skene confirmed the new Mildura store would feature the first Guzman Y Gomez in western Victoria.

“Guzman Y Gomez is Australia’s most authentic Mexican taqueria with a cult following around Australia,” she said.

“They specialise in Mexican dishes such as tacos, nachos and burritos prepared fresh on site using the most authentic and ethically sourced ingredients.”

OTR’s first Sunraysia store opened in Irymple in 2015.
