For florists, Mother’s Day business is blooming

MILDURA Flower Studio owner Melinda Williams says her business has been busier than ever as families across Sunraysia scramble to find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day.

Ms Williams said it had been business as usual since Victoria’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic had been brought into place, aside from social distancing inside the shop.

“I know a lot of other businesses have had to think of other ways to run with home deliveries, but for us it’s just the norm,” she said.

But with Mother’s Day fast approaching, Ms Williams said the business had received a “huge influx” of orders from as far away as Ouyen and Robinvale.

“Last week it really started to ramp up and everyone was just getting ahead early,” she said.

“Because some people can’t visit they’re all wondering what they can do and sending flowers is one of those things.”

Ms Williams said local lisianthus was a popular choice this year, along with the usual roses, lilies, gerberas, carnations and tulips.

“I think it’s the whole gesture of sending flowers that people enjoy,” she said.

“Having somebody think of you and going through the process of ordering — it’s always such a nice surprise. And mums especially; I think they really appreciate it.”
