Mildura businesses deliver for Mother’s Day

SUNRAYSIA cafes are working hard to ensure every mum gets the Mother’s Day she deserves.

COVID-19 restrictions may mean families cannot dine as normal but many have still been able to order delicious treats to be picked up or delivered.

Two Black Sheep Cafe’s Kellie See has spent this week taking orders for Mother’s Day platters, while cafe owner and head chef Linda Beevers perfects the menu.

“Normally Mother’s Day is our biggest time of year,” Ms See said.

But obviously this year is very different.

Ms See and Ms Beevers sat down and thought about how they could still make Mother’s Day special and decided to give customers the chance to buy platters.

They developed four different platters and Ms See said it was amazing how much support the idea had received.

“It’s actually done a lot better than we expected,” she said.

The platters have also been popular with people living out of town, who have ordered deliveries to their mothers.

Ms See said it was the first time the cafe had decided to offer deliveries since restrictions came into effect.

Meanwhile other businesses are also finding ways to make Mother’s Day special.

Biscuits By Tonia owner Tonia Argiro has spent the week baking up a storm in preparation for the day.

Ms Argiro usually sells her biscuits and cakes at the Mother’s Day Classic, but cannot this year.

Instead, she has been taking orders for some of her most popular items including cannoli, carrot cake, lamingtons, banana cake, biscuit platters, chopping board biscuits and almond bread.

Ms Argiro said carrot cake was in high demand, followed by banana bread.

Biscuits By Tonia usually has a regular spot at the Sunraysia Farmers Market but since restrictions have been in place the market has not been operating.

Ms Argiro said she missed seeing her regular customers and appreciated their ongoing support.

“I’m just hoping the markets come back soon and everyone can get back to going out and seeing each other again,” she said.
