Virgin Australia Mildura flights stay, Rex cuts three trips

MILDURA Airport chair Peter O’Donnell says airlines have shown support for Mildura with limited cuts to the region’s domestic flights.

Rex is the most recent carrier to announce cuts to its domestic routes, with limited restrictions to its two outgoing routes from Mildura – while Virgin Australia announced on Friday that no Mildura flights would be changed.

“We are quite pleased at this point in time as it seems the airlines have been really supportive of the region,” Mr O’Donnell said.

“And to hear Virgin won’t cut any flights at this point is great news for Mildura.”

Rex currently offers 20 weekly flights from Mildura to Melbourne, but announced it would only reduce flights to 17 per week.

It said the Mildura-Adelaide route would be restricted on an ad hoc basis.

Mr O’Donnell hoped there would be enough business for airline carriers to keep current routes in place.

“There could always be further cuts, we don’t know,” he said.

“But we are really confident that there will be enough demand for the companies to keep servicing the area.”
