Victorian company plans Carwarp solar plant

A ZERO-carbon energy power plant is planned for a site 35km from Mildura, creating up to 70 jobs.

The Victorian company RayGen has developed the technology for the solar farm, based around what the company says is low-cost and efficient renewable energy.

Using PV solar cells to convert light to electricity and heat energy, the project aims at an estimated saving of up to 12,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

Project manager Mike Henderson said he hoped the construction process would employ local workers.

“We have begun sounding out local suppliers and are impressed with the capabilities of the region,” he said.

“We are committed to working with the local community during project development, construction, commissioning and operation to ensure highest community value and relationship for the project.”

The site, set near the Carwarp township, will feature four solar towers and more than 1000 sun-tracking mirrors.

Construction of the site is planned to begin later in the year, with an information night on the project planed for this Thursday.

All are welcome to attend the information night at Red Cliffs Bowls Club Thursday night at 7.30pm.
