Irymple aims to shape its community plan

BIG visions and ideas for the future of Irymple will be brought to the table at a community brainstorming day on Tuesday.

Mildura Council and the Irymple Progress Association are calling on local residents, community groups and businesses to attend the session at One Hub and contribute to what will become the Irymple Community Plan.

Irymple Progress Association president Dorothy Knight said she had noted a long list of enhancements for the town and looked forward to hearing the visions of other residents.

“It’s a day for anyone who lives in Irymple or is connected to the area to bring their ideas … the more ideas and voices you have, the better,” she said.

“One of those ideas on my list has been a dream of mine and that’s to get a walking track from Irymple to Mildura.

“Part of the green belt now has been sold off … it was the old channel that used to feed the water to the blocks and they weaved all the way from Irymple to Mildura and my dream was to get that going.

“The progress association had a meeting with quite a few councillors and they’ve said the water board sold a lot of that off, so we won’t be able to do that but we might be able to consider going down the railway line eventually.”

The community plan will pave the way for the future of Irymple and earmark potential developments, expansions and upgrades.

Mrs Knight said the installation of lights and footpaths on various streets connecting residents to the Irymple shopping centre was also on her list.

“We need lights on Sandilong Avenue … and a footpath finished,” she said.

“We also need lights and a path up to the Oasis nursing home so those residents can come down safely to the pub and to do their shopping.”

The brainstorming session will be held from 11am to 6pm at 2128 Fifteenth Street, Irymple.

“Irymple is amazing and we’re growing very quickly,” Mrs Knight said.

“After the brainstorming session, all the ideas will be collated, and then we will have another public meeting so the community can have the final say.”
