Dimmeys elaborate on plans for Mildura store

DISCOUNT retailer Dimmeys has spoken out about plans for its Mildura store.

Last week the store confirmed four of its 16 Victorian stores would be closed, while the other 12 would remain open.

While the Swan Hill and Geelong store closures were confirmed, the future of the Mildura store was still to be decided.

However, Dimmeys financial controller Madhu Khadka told Sunraysia Daily on Wednesday that while the retailer could not confirm a date, a store closure was planned for Mildura eventually.

“The Mildura store is owned by the director of Dimmeys so we won’t be closing anytime soon,” he said.

“In time we will look at making other arrangements in that store, that is what my director is trying to do, but I can’t confirm the date.”

The original closure announcement came in late November last year, when the retailer announced on Facebook it would be closing all stores.

However, a company statement last week said part-owner and Dimmeys director Doug Zappelli would be taking over day-to-day operations of the remaining Victorian stores.

Mr Khadka said arrangements for the Mildura store and building were being confirmed.

“I cannot confirm closing, but we are working with local agents (about the sale of the building) and we have had some interest,” he said.

“Until we get those arrangements sorted, we can’t confirm at this time.”
