Sunraysia business strikes gold in off-road adventure

A SUNRAYSIA business has won a prestigious statewide tourism award.

Peter and Jeanie Kelly’s Murray Offroad Adventures took home a gold award at the RACV Victorian Tourism awards ceremony in Melbourne last weekend.

The business has been running for only two years and was also a finalist for the award last year, against stiff competition from metropolitan operators.

The couple say their passion to show people the outback drives the business’s success.

“We just love being out and about,” Ms Kelly said.

“The kangaroos hopping in the open plains, or the emus down at Hattah, that doesn’t fail — we still get excited about that.”

Mr Kelly said the main benefit of running tours from Mildura was that the outback isn’t far away.

“We’re pretty spoilt as well — if people just want a short trip, just at Kings Billabong you can feel like you’re miles away,” he said. “There’s all these things only half an hour away from Mildura.”

While they’re relishing the award, the Kellys want to share the benefit with all of Sunraysia’s tourism operators.

“We really want to try and attract customers to Mildura, not just to Murray Offroad Adventures,” Mr Kelly said.
