$4.9 million Deakin Avenue development a step closer

A NEW $4.9 million three-storey development in the heart of Mildura is a step closer to reality after the demolition of the Hutchinson Motors site on Deakin Avenue this week.

The new building will include four office spaces and a restaurant/cafe across the first and second floors, plus five top-floor residential apartments.

The development was proposed by GSD Architects in October 2018 and given the green-light by Mildura Council in late January this year.

Construction was expected to be completed by February 2021.

The car dealership will be temporarily relocated, before it settles into a new multi-dealership facility at 588 Fifteenth Street, also designed by GSD Architects.

GSD Architects director Geoff Sparkes said there had been some set-backs on the Fifteenth Street construction, but he anticipated the multi-dealership facility would be up and running by April 2020.

“The building was supposed to start of the first of November but there was a delay so I would anticipate us starting around the first of December, if not earlier,” he said.

“I would think it would be ready before Easter next year.”

The multi-brand complex will combine Mitsubishi, Holden, Kia, HSV and Volkswagen.
