Virgin Australia: No change for Mildura to Melbourne flights

VIRGIN Australia operations between Mildura and Melbourne are not expected to be affected by a reduction of its domestic flights from next month.

The company this week announced a number of changes to its fleet and network in response to a review, which will deliver at least a two per cent reduction in domestic capacity in the second half of the 2020 financial year compared to the same period last year.

Virgin Australia will begin exiting domestic and international routes next month beginning with the Canberra to Perth route followed by the Gold Coast to Perth service in January.

International flights between Hong Kong and Melbourne will be suspended from February and Sydney to Christchurch flights will cease from April.

Virgin Australia also plans to reduce its Sydney to Tamworth from double daily to six services per week.

Virgin Australia began jet flights between Mildura and Melbourne in 2008 and continues to operate a daily service between the two centres.

A company spokesperson yesterday said no changes to the Mildura to Melbourne route had been flagged as part of operational manoeuvres to reflect demand.

Virgin Australia Group CEO and managing director Paul Scurrah said the changes highlight the group’s focus on disciplined capacity management and putting the right product on the right route.

“We maintain a strong network of destinations and it’s important that our schedule continues to reflect demand from our business and leisure customers,” Mr Scurrah said.
