MILDURA Regional Development (MRD) has appointed board member Brett Millington as chief executive.
Mr Millington will takeover from acting chief Rod Trowbridge on Monday.
The announcement follows former chief Damian Crowe resigning in July, only one month into the role.
MRD deputy chair Geoff Thomson said Mr Millington would bring more than 15 years’ experience at an executive level to the organisation.
“Brett has been a MRD board member since the organisation’s inception in 2017, so he knows our business well and has a great feel for what’s required to take the organisation forward,” he said.
“We’re fortunate as his business strengths span so many integrated areas such as innovation, corporate governance, strategy development and human resource management as well as his original degree in science, focusing on water and natural resource management.
“His previous MRD board experience has also developed Brett’s operational and strategic understandings of our very important local tourism industry.”
The new position is symbolic of “coming home” for Mr Millington, who went to school in Sunraysia and has maintained strong professional ties with the region.
He was previously program director with Intelligent Water Networks, a partnership between VicWater, Victorian Water Corporations and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
Mr Thomson acknowledged the work of Mr Trowbridge for stepping into the acting role during an “important transitioning phase”.
“Rod has been extremely generous in his time to return to Mildura and provide us with his experience and leadership during this interim period whilst the recruitment process occurred.”
