A Magic grand final

MILDURA Magic midweek bowls’ teams recorded solid wins in both Division 1 and 1 qualifying finals to book a grand final berth in two weeks time.

The elimination final saw Irymple prevail over Red Cliffs in a thriller, 76 shots to 73. In Second Division, Workers eliminated the Euston Bandits 46 – 39.

The preliminary finals will see Workers host Irymple at Cureton Avenue in Division 1 and Wentworth host the Workers.

The Division 1 Qualifying final saw two very tough matchups.

Ken Job drew Mark Eckel and that match went down to the wire with the final score a 19 -19 draw.

Alongside Eckel’s rink Ken Yeowart was locked in a battle royale with Workers Peter Bishop. At the end of the day neither side could gain the ascendancy and a 24 all draw was the result.

With everything to play for Isaiah Bettess (S), Lindsay Lynch, Joan Bunney and Rod Johnstone jumped Fred Bacons rink and recorded a match winning 32-13 win for the Magic which lifted them into the grand final.

Workers will have to face off with Irymple in an endeavour to have a crack at the Magic in the last dance.

In the elimination final, Irymple took the points over Red Cliffs.

Bruce Harford got the Tigers off to a solid start with a 30-22 win over Graeme Phillips.

The Suns Graham Newey worked his rink solid all day to collect a 26-25 win over Carolyn Coles.

In the end, the match winner for the Suns was Ian Kellett (S), Wayne Gardner, John Vuik and Chris Scott who recorded a 28-18 win over Michael Clifford. Irymple prevailing 76(10)-73(2).

In Second Division, Mildura took out Wentworth in straight sets.

Reg Gardner adopted a no-nonsense approach to the game lifting Val Munro, Judy Morris and Carmel Morrison to a resounding 37-13 win over Dianne Pumpa. Alongside, Peter Ellis’s rink added support and saw the Magic record a 31-18 win over Sue Nichols. Magic qualifying for the Grand Final winning 68(8)-31(0).

Workers had the Green and Gold up and about in their elimination final against the Euston Bandits. The destroyer for the Workers was Wayne Long’s rink of Harvey Loveday, Geoff Castleman and Richard Clarke. They accounted for George “Woody” White 27-16. The Bandit’s Anthony Twomey kept Ron Boyd honest winning 23-19. At the end of the day the Workers saluted the judge and have booked a place in the preliminary final next week. Workers 46(6) defeated Euston 39(2).
