ROUND 12 of Sunraysia Midweek Pennant Bowls produced some big results with the top three sides in the competition announcing their intentions on the run home to the finals.
Third-placed Irymple took all the points against Ouyen collecting a 22-shot win.
Graham Newey skipped his rink of Lorraine Millward, Anne Kellett and Geoff Madigan to a 28-16 win over Janet Vallance, while Graeme Phillips got home 23-22 over Geoff Hahnel and Ian Kellett had the edge over Ouyen’s Sue Kelly 29-20.
The Sun’s rising to record an 80 to 58 shot win and secure third spot on the ladder, standing 24 points clear of Red Cliffs in fourth.
Red Cliffs will be smarting after their loss to Workers.
While they are sitting in fourth spot on the ladder had they been able to collect one or two rink points it would have given them some breathing space on the run home to the finals.
Workers ran out convincing winners 89-43 over the Tigers.
Ken Job was the destroyer for the Workers unit as he skipped his rink of Eddy Vuik, Peter Mitchell and Trish Walters to a solid 30-12 win over Brenda Lindsay, Darren Robinson, Marg McGlashan and Trev Clarke.
Next door Fred Bacon had his rink firing beautifully setting up a 31-14 win over Red Cliffs champion, Bruce Harford.
Fellow Workers Skip, Peter Bishop returned a 28-17 win over a competitive Michael Clifford.
Workers sit second on the ladder separated only by shot difference from top side Mildura.
The ladder leaders were in no mood for a slow start to the run home to the finals when they took on the Coomealla Cannons at the Thunderdome.
Thunder it did. The Magic jumped clear early in the stanza opening up a double digit lead in the first few ends. The visitors continued to ply their trade and added to the scoreline.
Mark Eckel’s rink of Ken Capper, Corey Bettess and Glenys Yeowart scorched the carpet to record a 41- 8 win over Mark Deakin, Delwyn Milner, Neva Cooke and Fred Posgate.
Alongside Eckel, the Magic’s Peter Ellis had his quartet of Rod Johnstone, Alik Kowalewicz and Joan Bunney humming along at the break to lead 18-0.
The Cannon’s Rob Nichols lead his rink of Dinky Nichols, Graeme Burrell and Pam Lambert back into the contest with a spirited fightback after the resumption outscoring the Mildura unit 22-10 in the run home. The final score saw Ellis home 28-22.
The Magic’s Ken Yeowart’s rink started well opening up a significant break early. Adrian Barko worked hard to keep his team in the contest. His leader Phil Gordon had a solid second half and helped reduce the damage. Barko was solid all day.
The Magic’s of Rob Hanns, Fran Richards, The Major and Ken Yeowart ran out 30-20 winners as the Magic recorded an all points 99 – 50 victory.
Next week the two ladder leaders Mildura and Workers face off in the joust for top spot, Ouyen takes on Coomealla at Ouyen, and Red Cliffs welcome Irymple at Tigerland.
Second division results saw no big surprises as the comp rolls into the last two home and away games.
Workers 3 went down to sister team Workers 2, 51-30, with Ron Boyd’s rink winning 29-14 over Joy Stevens to set up the win.
Unfortunately Red Cliffs forfeited with Underbool collecting eight points.
Mildura took full toll of Irymple recording an all points win 59-36. Judy Morris, Cecilia Ferdelja, Marlene Scheele and Claire Johnstone the winners over Ian McLeans rink 31-17.
The Euston Bandits recorded a solid 23 shot win over Wentworth, 58-35. Bandit rink skipped by Anthony Tormey went down to Sue Nichols 23-25. George White’s rink of Hazel Grant, Lina Morgan and Julie Ryan got the job done winning 35-10 over Dianne Pumpa’s quartet.
